Heather Olson is a dancer and choreographer based in New York City since 1997. Originally from Chicago, Olson received her BFA from North Carolina School of the Arts (also in ’97). As a performer, she has had longstanding relationships with Tere O’Connor Dance (since 1997) and Yanira Castro (since 2000). With both companies, she has toured extensively throughout the U.S., and internationally in France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Mexico, Romania and Switzerland. As a freelance performer, Olson has had the pleasure of dancing with Jennifer Allen, Karl Anderson, Ivy Baldwin, Levi Gonzales, and Ashley Steele (Red Dive) among others. As a choreographer, Olson has been commissioned by Dance Theater Workshop (spring season 2008), and presented by Danspace Project, P.S 122, La Mama etc, Movement Research at Judson Church, 100 Grand, and Catch! at Galapagos Art Space. Recently, she was one of three artists selected for the 2008/2009 Sugar Salon creative residency. In January 2009, Sugar Salon presented her newest work, “in the river”, at Baryshnikov Arts Center.
